3ds max unwrapping uv problem

I am not very good at unwrapping, and I'm trying to get better at it, but it never is as easy as they make it out to be in the tutorials for me.

Is there a way to remove the automatic seems that 3ds max creates? I did the remove UV feature from the utilities menu, and also reset UVs, but its still giving me seems in there. I want to be able to create my own. I cant remove the seems and create my own

edit: this is just for unwrapping the pants, but I have this issue on other models as well.
