Hey guys,
I know there's probably been a ton of these already but I haven't found anything that quite fits my needs/expectations.
Ok, so here it is: I want another box that's at least going to render while I work on current projects, but I'm quite unsure what to buy and my budget is rather limited.
As I'm rendering with V-Ray for Cinema 4D all that counts for me is CPU. So I've been checking out ebay for a while and i stumbled upon this:
HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server
- 2x Xeon E5450 -> 8x 3,0 GHz
- 16 GB RAM (ECC)
- 2x 146 GB HDD
- 2x PSU
Which will give me 24,0 GHz of power for the bargain price of 330 which is roughly 440 USD. It's an old rack server and I could imagine getting a second one so I'd have 48,0 GHz of power.
Do any of you guys think that this is a suitable solution for that kind of money? Do you know cheaper/better alternatives? Or Anything that gives me more than double for not even double the money? :p
Now for my V-Ray Question: At first I planned on getting Cinema 4D running on the second/third box as standalone, import the files via network and then just press render manually. If I use V-Ray Distributed Render and I render to the picture viewer, will I be able to see the 8 Cores from the second box in my viewport? Is it version dependent?
I'm thankful for any tips or advice on what to get.
