Duration 1h 39m Project Files Included MP4
In this series of lessons, we'll look at techniques for creating photo-real lighting, shading
and texturing using a reference image as our guide. As audiences demand greater immersion in
entertainment media, adding realism to an artificially created scene is an essential part of
visual effects work. The use of reference and real-world texturing is increasingly important in
this process.
Starting with a previz setup and background plate, we'll add image-based lighting,
displacement, and naturalistic weathering to transform a simple scene into a realistic
environment ready for production.
01. Introduction and project overview
02. Setting up our 3ds Max workspace
03. Setting up the light rig
04. Refining the reflection, bump and displacement shaders
05. Refining the advanced displacement shaders
06. Looking at the sun
07. Shading the final model
08. Getting dirty in Mudbox
09. Refining the dirty reflections shaders
10. Refining the metal and glass shaders
11. Optimizing V-Ray for the final render
